LT Imperial War Museum London Transport

£450.00

Vintage official reproduction of a poster designed for London Transport - The Imperial War Museum Underground to London North or Elephant & Castle - featuring colourful illustrations of historic items on display inside the shape of the museum including a bi-plane and tanks, guns and other weapons, a military helmet and uniform on a stand, an RSM navy anchor shield badge, a World War One Totenkopf skull and crossbones on a pennant flag, a Zeppelin / blimp airship and a warship in camouflage colours, a Nazi Swastika on a black Iron Cross and a Parteiadler Nazi Germany eagle emblem (National Socialist German Workers' Party / Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei) with the date 1939 (the start of World War Two), the text with the London Underground roundel below - The Imperial War Museum displays in profusion devices for the slaughter of one's fellow men. But less obviously it is also a remarkable gallery of modern art - Epstein, Augustus John, Paul Nash, Nevinson, Bone, Rothenstein, Sargent, Spencer, Piper, Willliam Roberts, Laura Knight, Sutherland and many others, are all finely represented. A case, if ever there was one, of good from evil. The Imperial War Museum (IWM) was founded in 1917; the IWM London headquarters / Southwark branch opened on Lambeth Road in 1936; the museum's other branches are IWM Duxford, IWM North, HMS Belfast and the Churchill War Rooms. Good condition, creasing, tears, minor staining.

FAQs

More information about our posters and service.

Are your posters originals?

All our antique and vintage posters, books, maps and prints listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.

What is a lithograph?

Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
