Original vintage cruise travel advertising poster for Shaw, Savill & Albion Line New Zealand Direct. Colourful painting in a round frame design featuring the British Royal Navy captain and explorer Captain Cook (Captain James Cook; 1728-1779) dressed in his naval uniform and holding a telescope under one arm, standing in front of Mount Egmont (Mount Taranaki located on New Zealand's north island; named Mount Egmont by Cook on 13 January 1770 after the Earl of Egmont) with the historical caption inside a scroll reading Mt. Egmont Sighted by Captain Cook 1770. The British shipping company Shaw, Savill & Albion Line (1882-1974) operated services to Australia and New Zealand from the UK. Artwork by E Waters (c.1931). What is a lithograph?
Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
Can I visit your gallery?
Yes. Our gallery is based in London. Our address is 404 King's Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0LJ.
Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
