Original vintage travel poster for Rio de Janeiro issued by Braniff International Airways featuring a colourful cartoon illustration of tourists on a red cable car with people enjoying the view, a man smoking a pipe and another reading a newspaper, children waving, a person with a long zoom camera taking photos and the conductor reaching to a red flower on Sugarloaf Mountain, the bold lettering above the cable car line as a plane flies overhead and the view of the city and mountains in the distance against the red background. Mid-century artwork by Robert W. Dunn who was the youngest soldier to fight in Patton's 3rd Army in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII; he then went to the Pratt Institute and produced posters for Braniff's advertising campaign in 1953 (information provided by the artist's family). The South American city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil is a popular holiday destination. The Sugarloaf Cable Car was opened in 1912. Braniff Airways was an American airline that operated national and international services from 1928-1982; named as Braniff International Airways from 1948-1965. Very good condition, light waving, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?

Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography. 

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
