Original vintage drink advertising poster for a wine festival held in Mainz aRh / Mainz am Rhein / Mainz on the Rhine in Germany from 16-24 May 1936 in the Town Hall Adolf Hitler Platz (renamed Jockel-Fuchs-Platz; previously called Halleplatz). Striking design featuring a smiling man holding up a wine glass in front of a silhouette of the historic Mainz Cathedral (St Martin's Cathedral; founded 976) in the Old Town with the stylised gothic title text and event information below including wine tasting dates and the cost of wine from 20 pfennig. This event was created by the Nazi government to increase sales of German wine with festivals and parades organised in many towns and cities in wine growing regions; Mainz has grown wine since Roman times and hosts the annual Mainzer Weinmarkt wine market. Large size. Good condition, folds, tears in margin, minor paper losses, creasing.

What is a lithograph?
Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.

Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
