Original vintage USSR space race poster - Glory to the Soviet Man the First Cosmonaut! / Слава Советскому Человеку Первому космонавту! Great design depicting a cosmonaut looking up in front of a Vostok rocket marked with a Soviet hammer and sickle emblem and the date 12 April 1961, and a white trail shooting up through the starry night space sky background, medals by the moon and planet earth and the years 1959 and 1961, the stylised bold glowing lettering in white above and in red below. The Soviet Union launched Luna 1 (aka Mechta / Dream) on 2 January 1959, the first lunar spacecraft and human-made object to leave the earth's orbit and fly by the moon. The Soviet pilot and cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin (Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin; 1934-1968) became the first man in space on 12 April 1961. Very good condition, restored tears, minor staining, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?

Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography. 

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
