Original vintage Soviet movie poster for a documentary film about the first flight into space - First Flight to the Stars - shot by the Central Documentary Film Studio in collaboration with Mosnauchfilm. Fantastic image of the smiling cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin with a space rocket marked with a red star and CCCP Vostok on the front, a planet with stars in the night sky in the background, the text above in stylised red and blue letters. Yuri Gagarin (1934-1968) was the first man in space in 1961 in the Vostok spacecraft, during the Cold War Space Race period between the Soviet Union (USSR / CCCP) and the USA. The movie premiered in 1961 at the Moscow House of Cinema ahead of the Second Moscow International Film Festival; the film was subsequently banned due to secrecy in 1964 and only some of the footage was shown. Good condition, folded as issued, faint creases in margins and fold lines.

What is a lithograph?
Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
Can I visit your gallery?

Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
