Original vintage sport poster for the 1972 Summer Olympic Games held from 26 August to 11 September 1972 in Munich Germany the poster featuring a graphic design by the geometrical abstract artist and influential visual art teacher Josef Albers (1888-1976) depicting a swimming pool as a blue rectangle in a border in the style of his Homage to the Square paintings, the Olympic Rings and Munich Olympics logo with the title in German below - Olympische Spiele Munchen 1972. One of the series of posters by various popular artists of the period (Peter Phillips, Horst Antes, Otl Aicher, David Hockney among others) commissioned to design the 1972 Olympic Games posters in Germany for their advertising campaign, which aimed to "represent the intertwining of sports and art worldwide". Very good condition, creasing.

What is a lithograph?
Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
Can I visit your gallery?

Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
