Original vintage military sport poster - Allied Forces Sports Council presents Armed Forces European Theater Track and Field Championships Olympic Stadium Berlin Germany - starting at 2pm and held on 7 and 8 September 1946, featuring an illustration of a winged goddess and an athlete holding a laurel wreath in front of a map of Europe between red and white striped theatre stage curtains with the participating countries listed below - Belgium Czechoslovakia Denmark France Great Britain Greece Luxembourg Netherlands Norway Poland Russia United States. Sponsored by the US Army this successful post-war meet attracted 120,000 spectators; it included an Olympic style opening ceremony and a runner carrying a flaming torch and was also broadcast by radio; it featured hurdles, various running distances, pole vault, high jump, shot put, discus, long jump, hammer throw and javelin events. Horizontal. Good condition, folds, creasing, tears, small paper losses, minor staining.

Are your posters originals?

What is a lithograph?

Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography. 

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
