Original vintage World War Two charity fundraising appeal poster for Anchor Day held on 10 September 1940 throughout the Metropolitan Police Area in aid of The British Sailors' Society featuring a great design by Helen McKie (1889-1957), depicting a cheerful British sailor in white uniform with BSS on his cap standing with his arms folded next to a smiling senior naval officer in blue uniform, a ship sailing on a rough sea with its steam creating a map of the world on the yellow sky background, the text below in bold red and blue lettering announcing the event patrons Their Majesties the King and Queen and Her Majesty Queen Mary with a message in a red box - Let London Say on Anchor Day 'Thank You British Sailors' - next to the British Sailors' Society anchor logo with the charity's crowned emblem and slogan - In Service For The Sailor - above. Are your posters originals?

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
Can I visit your gallery?
Yes. Our gallery is based in London. Our address is 404 King's Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0LJ.
Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
