Founded and run by the Potamianos family, the Epirotiki Lines (1850-2005) shipping company was a pioneer of Aegean Sea cruises offering the first trips around the Greek Islands and Eastern Mediterranean with the Hellenic National Tourist Office. The M/S Semiramis (1953-1979) was their first liner to provide these popular 3-4 to 7 day round-trip sightseeing cruises following a major refit and rebuild with a modern promenade deck, lounge, dining room and private facilities in the cabins; the ship was originally named the MS Calabar and built for Elder Dempster Lines (1935-1953).
