Cunard White Star Queen Mary Queen Elizabeth Ships

Artwork by Walter Thomas (1894-1971). The RMS Queen Mary was launched in 1934 and took her maiden voyage in 1936 as Cunard's flagship liner. During World War Two she was converted into a troop ship for the allies, resuming her normal transatlantic passenger services after the war. She was retired in 1967 and is now permanently moored as a museum and hotel in California. The RMS Queen Elizabeth was launched in 1938 (known as Hull 552 during her construction) as a luxury liner and sister ship to the RMS Queen Mary . She served as a troop ship during World War Two, after which she resumed services until her retirement in 1967. After her initial sale to Long Beach City in California, she was sold on and eventually scrapped in 1973 after a fire in 1972 during renovation in Hong Kong.
