Leopoldville Air Congo
Original vintage Air Congo travel poster advertising flights to Leopoldville featuring a colourful mid-century design by the Belgian artist Gaston van den Eynde (1892-1965), depicting a lady wearing a headscarf and beaded necklace and earrings on the side in the foreground with a modern jet plane flying past a city skyscraper and a busy market scene against a red background, the bold text in blue with the airline company's star logo on the margin below. Air Congo was founded in 1961 as the flag carrier for the Congolese Republic supported by personnel, equipment and technical aid from Sabena (Belgium national airways); based in Leopoldville (now Kinshasa), the company operated long-haul flights to Europe and regional routes in Africa and was renamed Air Zaire when the country became the Republic of Zaire in 1971. Printed in Belgium by Marci. Good condition, creasing, tears, minor staining.

Are your posters originals?

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.

Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
