BEA British European Airways Luggage Porter

£400.00

Original vintage advertising poster for BEA British European Airways featuring a fun mid-century design by the Italian painter and graphic artist Hugo Giammusso (1907-1977) depicting a porter with a moustache, smoking a pipe and wearing a blue uniform and cap, running through the air on white clouds as stepping stones next to an outline of a plane with a pair of feathered wings on his back, holding a duck with a luggage label on its leg under his arm and pushing a luggage trolley piled high with various items of cargo including addressed envelopes on wooden crates, a fresh fruit basket, a flower pot, and a pair of chickens looking out of an open cage, a label on the rooster's neck, against a light pink and blue shaded sky with the stylised text and bold BEA logo with a blue winged key emblem ("the key to Europe") above. BEA was a British airline operating services within the UK and to Europe, North Africa and the Middle East from 1946 to 1974 when it merged with BOAC to form British Airways. Printed by Menaglia, Rome. Fair condition, repaired tears, creasing, staining, restored paper losses on edges, faint overprinted lettering.

FAQs

More information about our posters and service.

Are your posters originals?

All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.

What is a lithograph?

Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
