Original antique cruise travel poster - The Blue Funnel Line Largest first class passenger steamers to South Africa Australia Straits & China Alfred Holt & Co. Liverpool - featuring a maritime design by the British artist Samuel John Milton Brown (1873-1965), depicting an ocean liner sailing on a deep blue, lightly choppy water with sea gulls flying in the foreground and smoke rising from the ship funnel into the pale sky background, the bold text on the border above and below. Founded in 1866 by Alfred Holt (1829-1911), the Blue Funnel Line shipping company became one of leading British shipping companies and the first to operate regular long distance global trade and passenger steamship routes including to Asia and Australia. Good condition, large restored tears, restored pinholes, restored pinholes, tape marks, staining, creasing, 2 sheet poster backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
