Built in 1923 for the Deutsche Ost Afrika Linie / German East Africa Line (founded 1890), the SS Usambara provided passenger services between Germany and Africa in the 1920s-1930s; she served as a refugee ship for German Jews in the late 1930s providing an escape to Africa; in 1939 she was requisitioned by the German Navy as an accommodation ship; she was bombed and sunk in 1945. Printed by Muhlmeister & Johler, Hamburg. Good condition, restored tears, restored creasing. restored folds, restored pinholes, minor staining, backed on linen.

Are your posters originals?
All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.
What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
