Empress Of Britain Canadian Pacific 1931

£2,750.00

Original vintage poster to promote the construction and launch of the ocean liner Empress of Britain in 1931 a five day atlantic giantess 40,000 tons for the Canadian Pacific featuring a striking Art Deco design depicting the hull of the new ocean liner looming over the shipyard surrounded by construction cranes and people working on scaffolding with smoke billowing up on the side from a steam locomotive on the train tracks, the bold text across the image and below. Built in Scotland from 1928-1931, the RMS Empress of Britain was the largest Canadian Pacific ship designed to carry 1,195 passengers, providing the fastest and most luxurious trans-Atlantic cruise travel services primarily between Quebec and England on the Canada Europe route; she also sailed winter cruises and round the world as well as sailing with just 40 passengers, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth with their entourage, back to Southampton in 1939; she later became a troop ship during World War Two transporting military personnel and civilians until being bombed by a German bomber off the coast of Ireland and torpedoed by a U-boat in 1940 (the largest ship ever sunk by a U-boat). Good condition, restored tears, restored paper losses, staining, tape marks, backed on linen.

Are your posters originals?

All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.

What is a lithograph?

Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
