Original vintage political news cover advertising poster - Sunday Times Her First Year - published by the Sunday Times to mark Margeret Thatcher's first year in office featuring caricature artwork by Michael Leonard (1933-2023) inspired by the 1854 painting of Joan of Arc by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, showing the British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in armour and holding a Union Jack flag with her cabinet ministers as cherubs flying around her with blue ribbons, one holding a halo behind her head and a few with a view of the Houses of Parliament at sunset below, including Geoffrey Howe, Lord Carrington, Michael Heseltine (in the style of the cherub at the bottom of the 16th century Sistine Madonna painting by Raphael), John Nott, William Whitelaw, Sir Keith Joseph, Sally Oppenheim, James Prior and Norman St John-Stevas. The Conservative politician Margaret Thatcher (1925-2013) won the 1979 General Election and served as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1979 to 1990. Excellent condition.

Are your posters originals?

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
Can I visit your gallery?
Yes. Our gallery is based in London. Our address is 404 King's Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0LJ.
Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
