Original antique travel advertising poster for The Royal Mail Steam Packet Company advertising The Royal Mail Line - The comfort route to New York & South America. 85 Years of Shipping Experience. The poster features great design by the notable illustrator and commercial artist Austin Cooper (1890-1964), depicting two panes with gentlemen looking at each other through time from 1839, when the company was incorporated by British Royal Charter, and 1924, when it was chosen by travellers of Discernment. Royal Mail Lines (1932-1965) was a leading cruise ship operator created to take over The Royal Mail Steam Packet Company (founded 1839); in 1965, it was taken over by a British transport operator, Furness Withy & Company (1891-1980). Printed by Sanders Phillips and Co., Ltd., The Baynard Press. Horizontal. Good condition, restored paper losses, restored tears, staining, minor creasing, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
