Paris Grande Saison 1939 Horse Show
Original vintage advertising poster for the Great Season of Paris / Paris Grande Saison organised by the Commissariat des Fetes de Paris and held during May and July 1939 featuring a fantastic sketch design of two elegant horses leading a carriage with the coachmen in red livery uniforms seated at the front and stylish young ladies behind, the title below in stylised bold blue and red letters. The Grande Saison / Grand Season from mid-April to June opened with the Concourse Hippiques / Equestrian Competitions horse show held in the Palais de Industrie on the Champs Elysees; patrons would view artist sculptures, paintings and decorative art at the opening, enjoy the latest fashions on display, and the French Grand Prix would end the programme of events; French high society would then leave Paris for the holidays, moving to the countryside and coast for the summer season. Published by the Ministry of Commerce. Printed in France by J. Simon. S.A., Paris. Very good condition, minor tears and small restored loss on margins, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
