Operation Pied Piper
The evacuation during World War Two, known as Operation Pied Piper, started in 1939. Developed by the Anderson Committee and organised by the Ministry of Health to protect people from the bombing in cities around the country, especially children (who were separated from their parents), as well as the infirm, elderly and mothers with babies. The operation moved over 3.5 million evacuees to homes and camps in the countryside and other countries in the British Empire, under the approval of the Children's Overseas Reception Board (CORB). Assistance was provided by local authorities, railway staff, teachers and the Women’s Voluntary Service (WVS; formed in 1938). Goods, important records and companies were also moved, including gold from the Bank of England, art and other treasures from museums, and government and private offices.

FAQs
More information about our posters and service.
Are your posters originals?
All our antique and vintage posters, books, maps and prints listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.
What is a lithograph?
Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.

Yes. Our gallery is based in London. Our address is 404 King's Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0LJ.
Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
