Original vintage World War Two recruitment poster for the Air Raid Precaution ARP service (set up in 1937 to protect citizens from air raids, manage the sirens and report bombing incidents) promoting the Women's Voluntary Services WVS (1938-1966; renamed the Women's Royal Voluntary Service WRVS 1966-2013; then the Royal Voluntary Service since 2013) - ARP It's the women we need... Women ambulance drivers, women wardens, women for first aid and casualty stations. Enrol at once! - featuring a black and white photograph of a lady in a gas mask and industrial gloves in front of a red metal factory work background with smartly dressed ladies walking together above, the bold stylised lettering diagonally at the top and below, and in a speech bubble in the centre. Design by R. Fran Sutton (b.1912). Printed for H.M. Stationery Office by Fosh & Cross Ltd., London. Very good condition, creasing, small tear in margin.

Are your posters originals?

All our antique and vintage posters, books, maps and prints listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity. 

What is a lithograph?

Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography. 

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
