Original vintage Soviet travel poster for Stalingrad issued by the State Travel Company Intourist (founded 1929) - Visitez l'URSS / Visit USSR - featuring a colourful view of the historic fortress city of Stalingrad (1925-1961; Tsaritsyn 1589-1925; now Volgograd) on the Volga River framed by the red brick bombed out ruins of Gerhardt's Mill with flowers on it in the foreground, depicting cars and a bus with people walking along the promenade by trees and flower beds and on the central steps of the propylaea river gates, with sailing boats and ships on the water in the distance, the bold text below and Intourist logo above. Now a building of historical interest Gerhardt's Mill was a former flour mill built in 1899 used successfully during World War Two to stop the German Army from advancing during the Battle of Stalingrad in 1942-1943. Built in 1952 the propylaea monument was designed by architects V.N. Simbircev, I.E. Fialko and V.S. Makarenko, located on the central embankment. Good condition, restored tears, restored creasing, minor staining, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
