Original vintage travel poster for the Island of Cyprus featuring a map of the ancient historic island country in the Mediterranean Sea marking various towns, the mountain ranges and bays including Larnaca Bay and Larnaca, Limassol and Akrotini Bay, the Troodos Mountains (home of Mount Olympus) and the Kyrenia Range, Cape Arnauti and Khrysokhou Bay, and the capital city Nicosia with a colourful image of two striped fish, a mermaid, seahorse and starfish on the side below, a plane flying above a cruise ship next to a stamp for the Louis Tourist Agency, and a compass with the 1905-1960 two red lions badge of the Colony of Cyprus above, the bold title text across the top and the decorative border depicting trees and sailing boats with insets showing the 13th century Bellapais Abbey monastery ruins, Wildflowers, moufflon (native wild sheep of Cyprus), the 11th century BC Ruins of Salamis, Kyrenia Harbour (located in Northern Cyprus), Birthplace of Venus (also known as Aphrodite) near Paphos depicting the goddess standing on a shell, a farmer Threshing with Oxen, Crusader Castles, Peasant Costume, Varied Fruit and the St Nicholas Cathedral (1328-1571; the Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque from 1571). Cyprus was a dominion of the British Empire from 1878 to 1960 as a British protectorate then a Crown colony; in 1960 it became the independent Republic of Cyprus. The stamp on the poster reads With the Compliments of Louis Tourist Agency PO Box 561 Nicosia Cyprus. Founded in 1935 the Louis Group is considered to be the "father of tourism" in Cyprus. Issued by the Cyprus Government Tourist Development Office. Printed in Great Britain by Waterlow & Sons Limited, London. Horizontal. Good condition, restored folds, restored tears, minor staining, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
