Original antique advertising poster for Michelin tyres featuring a great illustration showing the trademark Bibendum character - the iconic Michelin Man figure made from tyres - smoking a cigar and riding a bicycle at speed along a country road with a sign on his back reading: Le meilleur le moins cher / The best, the cheapest. Printed by Bulens Freres, Brussels. The French cartoonist Marius Rossillon (known as O'Galop; 1867-1946) created the iconic Bibendum / Michelin Man character in 1898 for the French tire company Michelin (founded 1889). Printed by Bulens Freres, Brussels. Good condition, staining, restored paper losses, restored tears, ink stamps on top left corner, backed on linen.

Are your posters originals?

What is a lithograph?

Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography. 

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
