Original vintage drink advertising poster for Van Nelle's Thee Van Nelle Kwaliteit / Van Nelle's Tea Van Nelle Quality featuring a bright and colourful illustration of a smiling Asian lady wearing a Mandarin style hat on top of her her long hair in a plait, a red and white shirt, blue trousers and Japanese Geta shoes, carrying a large box of Van Nelle afternoon tea on her shoulder against a yellow background, the bold title text in red above and blue lettering below. The Van Nelle shop was opened by Johannes van Nelle in 1782 selling tea, coffee and tobacco products; in 1845, it was sold to the Van der Leeuw family who founded plantations in Java Dutch West Indies; the company built an avant-garde constructivist style factory in Rotterdam in 1931, which ceased operations in 1996; the building was restored in 1998 and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014 (now offices with a restaurant, gym and event spaces). Large size. Good condition, restored tears, creasing, tears, minor paper loss on bottom right edge, pen writing on reverse.

Are your posters originals?

What is a lithograph?

Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography. 

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
