Royal Sailors

Sold

Original vintage Soviet movie poster for a feature film Korolevskie Matrosy / Royal Sailors / The Sailors of His Majesty featuring a stunning Constructivist design of sailors in uniform wearing HMS Amethyst caps, one standing in the foreground holding a rail, a sailor in white in the background holding a gun in front of the ship's gun turrets (echoing the design of the iconic Battleship Potemkin movie poster) and a sailor in uniform with a lady below. This fictional film, which is now lost, was written by Boris Lipatov and directed by Vladimir Braun. The story is based on the September 1931 Invergordon Mutiny when sailors of the British Atlantic Fleet took industrial action in an open mutiny of Royal Navy ships (this was one of the few military strikes in British history, which resulted in a panic on the London Stock Exchange, forcing it off the Gold Standard). Large size. Good condition, restored loss and tears, backed on linen.

Are your posters originals?

All our antique and vintage posters, books, maps and prints listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.

What is a lithograph?

Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
