Original vintage advertising poster for the St Petersburg Zoological Gardens announcing its programme of celebrations for the quarter centenary year anniversary of St Petersburg on Sunday 27 April 1903. Great image featuring the 1782 Bronze Horseman statue of Peter the Great, a battleship in full sail engulfed in smoke and surrounded by smaller rowing boats and a man blowing his whistle, leading a performing bear and various historic and fairy tale characters (wizard, Cossack, soldier etc.) above the stylised Art Nouveau text. The St Petersburg - or Leningrad - Zoo (Ленинградский зоопарк / Санкт-Петербургский зоопарк) is the oldest zoo in Russia, founded in 1865, located in the Alexander - or Aleksandrovsky - Park. The city was founded on 27 May 1703 (200 not 400 years) by the Russian Tsar, Peter the Great. Printed by the Imperial Theatre Printing House. Backed on Japan paper, light water stain on left margin, fold lines, repaired tears.

Are your posters originals?

What is a lithograph?

Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography. 

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
