Priestley's England - issued by the London & North Eastern Railway (1923-1948) to promote travel across England inspired by the popular 1929 novel The Good Companions about a concert party on tour by the notable English author John Boynton Priestley (189401984) featuring a great design by Tom Purvis (1888-1959) showing a train route map marking key destinations and stops on the rail lines from London to Darlington, Sheffield, Scarborough, Norwich and Ely including both real cities such as Cambridge and York and fictional locations from J.B. Priestley’s book such as Tewborough, Ribsden, Rawsley and Sandybay, the bold title on the side above and an image of a couple walking with travelling performers including a person playing a piano and another playing music on a guitar in yellow silhouette against the black background, the rest of the text below - We Carried 'The Good Companions' Now Let Us Carry You. This award winning book was published by William Heinemann Ltd; the story has been adapted for theatre, film, TV and radio and as a stage musical. Printed by Vincent Brooks Day and Son Ltd Litho London. Good condition, restored folds, restored tears, staining, backed on linen.

Are your posters originals?

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
Can I visit your gallery?
