Playa de Madrid Art Deco Lady Diver
Rare original vintage travel poster for the Playa de Madrid - a quince minutos de la Puerta del Sol - Beach of Madrid - fifteen minutes from the Puerta del Sol. Stylish Art Deco design by León Gerardo Luis Quintanilla (1893-1978) featuring a woman in a canary yellow swimsuit on a diving board with the Madrid skyline in the background. The poster was created in 1932 to advertise the first artificial beach and recreational complex built in Spain, located on the banks of the Manzanares River near the Spanish capital. The facility featured sand, sun loungers, swimming pools, tennis courts, and even a dance floor, offering a seaside experience in a landlocked city. The beach complex was a popular leisure spot for the working classes during the Second Republic era in Spain but later fell into disrepair. Excellent condition after restoration, restored missing parts on the left and right of the poster, restored minor loss and tears in image, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
