Original antique poster advertising the City of Brussels Maritime Installations and Inaugural Celebrations held from 19 to 28 September 1914 - Ville de Bruxelles Installations Maritimes de Bruxelles Fetes Inaugurales - featuring colourful artwork by Fernand Toussaint (1873-1956) of a parade of people wearing traditional 16th century period clothing, walking with flags and banners with four men in red outfits holding up a model ship and two children in the foreground holding staffs, one with the date 1561 on it and the other with an image of a man in a wreath and ribbons labelled Locqenghien, set in a blue and white border with the bold stylised text below. The Flemish engineer and Mayor of Brussels Jean / Jan de Locquenghien (1518-1574) designed the canal from Brussels to Willebroek, opened in 1561. Printed by O. De Rycker and Mendel Bruxelles. Good condition, folds, tears, staining, creasing.

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
