Battersea Power Station Community

£650.00

Original vintage propaganda poster - Community - featuring a great design by Brian Barnes depicting the iconic Battersea Power Station with two of its four chimneys in red rising into the pink background with the bold text in pink vertically in the centre between them. The historic coal fired Battersea Power Station was constructed in two parts, A Station and B Station, between 1929 to 1955 on the south side of the River Thames in Nine Elms, Wandsworth designed by architects J. Theo Halliday and Giles Gilbert Scott in an Art Deco and brick cathedral style; the two parts were decommissioned in 1975 and 1983 after which the building was left derelict with various plans submitted to bring the ruins back to life including as a theme park, a retail, housing and leisure complex, an eco dome and a new football stadium for Chelsea FC; the building was bought by a Malaysian consortium in 2012 and was fully restored and redeveloped, opening to the public in 2022. In 1986, the property developer and founder of Alton Towers John Broome (1943-2023), purchased Battersea Power Station with plans to create a theme park; due to lack of funding work on the project stopped in 1989 and the building was sold. The notable print maker, muralist and activist Brian Barnes (1944-2021) founded the Battersea Power Station Community Group in 1983 and was known for his active campaigns to preserve the listed building and ensure that local people were involved in the redevelopment plans.  Excellent condition, signed in pencil.

FAQs

More information about our posters and service.

Are your posters originals?

All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.

What is a lithograph?

Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
