Original vintage travel advertising poster for the Societe Generale des Transports Maritimes à Vapeur (SGTM) / General Society of Maritime Steam Transport (founded 1865). Colourful illustration featuring the two funnelled steamship Valdivia (1911-1933) sailing at sea with volcanic hills visible in the background, the SGTM flag flying on the side and at the front of the ship with the text in bold red letters above. The French ship SS Valdivia was built for SGTM to serve their passenger cruise routes to South America; during WWI she served as a British hospital ship (1915-1919), after which she resumed her passenger services until being scrapped in 1933. Published by Richter & C. Napoli. Printed in Italy. Horizontal. Very good condition, minor restoration to folds, backed on linen.

Are your posters originals?

What is a lithograph?
Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
Can I visit your gallery?
Yes. Our gallery is based in London. Our address is 404 King's Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0LJ.
Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
