Original vintage advertising poster for the General Post Office (GPO) - Hertz’s Radio Set 1886 - featuring a great illustration by Eric Fraser (1902-1983) of the German physicist Heinrich Rudolf Hertz (1857-1894) who first conclusively proved the existence of electromagnetic waves, depicted using the radio apparatus he invented to generate and detect radio waves, with a bright star in the sky in the background and the GPO logo and stylised title text below. One of a series of posters published by the GPO to showcase the new telephone and telegraphy technologies. The General Post Office GPO was founded in 1660; Royal Mail was founded in 1516. Horizontal. Good condition, repaired tear in right margin, small folds, creasing and small tears in margins.

What is a lithograph?

Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
