Original vintage Soviet movie poster for a film set during World War Two - They Fought for Their Country (Они сражались за родину / They fought for the Motherland) - based on a novel written by Mikhail Sholokhov about a platoon of Red Army soldiers protecting a bridge on the River Don as the Soviet troops retreat from the German army, directed by Sergei Bondarchuk and starring Vasily Shukshin, Vyacheslav Tikhonov and Sergei Bondarchuk. Dynamic design in red and black featuring soldiers in uniform with red Soviet stars on their hats marching with their rifle guns past the viewer, the text above and below. Horizontal. Good condition, restored tears, backed on linen.

Are your posters originals?

What is a lithograph?
Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
Can I visit your gallery?
Yes. Our gallery is based in London. Our address is 404 King's Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0LJ.
Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
