Egypt UAR Abu Simbel Temple

£750.00

Original vintage travel poster - Egypt UAR Abu Simbel Temple - featuring a great image of fashionably dressed tourists in summer clothing walking around the historic site and taking photos, admiring the iconic 13th century Abu Simbel Temple and ancient hieroglyphics carved on the rock above the massive statues of Ramesses II and Nefertari with children at their feet, a sailing boat on Lake Nasser visible on the side and the title text in white against the blue sky background above and in blue below. The Abu Simbel rock temples were built to commemorate victory at the Battle of Kadesh and as a lasting monument to Pharaoh Ramesses II (Ramses the Great; c. 1302 BC-1213 BC) and Queen Nefertari (Nefertari Meritmut; d. 1255 BC); originally located at the Abu Simbel village in the Aswan region of Egypt near the border with Sudan, the temples were relocated to higher ground in 1968 due to the building of the Aswan High Dam on the River Nile and creation of Lake Nasser. The union between Egypt and Syria - the UAR (United Arab Republic) - in the Middle East was established in 1958 but broke up in 1961 due to the coup d'etat in Syria, although Egypt continued to be known as the United Arab Republic until 1971. Issued by the Tourist Administration, Cairo. Printed in U.A.R. by Institut Graphique Egyptien. Good condition, creasing, tears, staining.

FAQs

More information about our posters and service.

Are your posters originals?

All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.

What is a lithograph?

Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
