Original vintage cruise poster - World B.I. Travel - featuring a colourful pictorial design of an ocean liner surrounded by illustrations of people from around the world in their national dress including a lady dancing in front of a temple representing India, a mother holding her child in front of a pyramid in Egypt, street sellers in a market, swimmers on a beach, Japanese ladies in kimonos sitting next to flowers and beefeaters in front of the Tower of London. The British India Steam Navigation company was formed in 1856, becoming one of the oldest and largest shipping companies in the world; BI provided passenger, mail and cargo trade services between the UK, Asia, Africa, the Persian Gulf and Australasia; it formed part of P&O in 1914 sailing under it's own name until 1972 when it was fully merged into P&O. Printed by Nissen and Arnold Ltd London England. Good condition, foxing, staining, restored tears, backed on linen.

Are your posters originals?

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
Can I visit your gallery?
Yes. Our gallery is based in London. Our address is 404 King's Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0LJ.
Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
