Original vintage travel poster for Pompei / Pompeii Italy featuring colourful artwork by the Italian graphic artist Mario Puppo (1913-1989) depicting the ancient horned Roman god statue preserved in the ash from the volcano in the House of the Faun - the Dancing Faunus of Pompeii - in front of a wall painting of two ladies on the side and a view of the ruins from the historic city of Pompeii in the background, smoke rising from the mountain on the horizon and the bold title text below. Located near Naples / Napoli, Mount Vesuvius erupted in AD79 and buried the area in 4-6m of ash; this ancient Roman site is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular tourist destination. Published by the Italian Tourism Board ENIT. Very good condition, restored minor tears, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?

Practically all of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves carving each colour of the image onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, we believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography. 

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £25 for orders placed via our website.
