Original vintage train travel and shipping advertising poster celebrating the Launch of T.S.S. Duke of York Queen's Island Belfast in Ireland on 7 March 1935 featuring a maritime painting by the notable British artist Norman Wilkinson (1878-1971) issued by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway depicting the cross-channel steamer ferry flying a Union Jack flag, sliding down the slipway into the water at the historic Harland & Wolff shipyard in front of rowing boats and a tugboat on the River Lagan, watched by spectators and workers standing next to cranes on the sides with more people on the opposite side of the busy industrial harbour below a lightly cloudy blue sky, the bold title and information text with the LMS company crest logo below - The new LMS steamer "Duke of York" built by Messrs Harland and Wolff Ltd. Belfast, was launched on the 7th March 1935, by the Duchess of Abercorn. The steamer is for the Heysham-Belfast Service and has restaurants, smoke rooms and lounges for both First and Third Class passengers. The "Duke of York" is equipped with mechanical stokers and an automatic sprinkler and fire alarm system is fitted throughout the passenger accommodation. The dimensions of the ship are:- Overall length 349ft. Breadth 52ft. Depth 19ft 6ins. and has a speed of 21 knots. Printed in England by London Lithographic Co. S.E.5. Horizontal. Large size. Good condition, restored tears, minor staining, minor creasing, browning, backed on linen.

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
