Original vintage London Transport travel poster for Chaldon Church featuring artwork by Frederick Charles Herrick (1887-1970) showing a monk with an palette and a priest admiring the completed the doom mural. Chaldon Church in Surrey houses the historic 12th century mural that was uncovered during restoration work in 1870-1871, a rare religious wall painting depicting the Ladder of Salvation of the Human Soul with Purgatory and Hell divided by a decorative band and ladder in the centre, surrounded by figures of people in Heaven and Hell with demons / devils and the Archangel Michael / Saint Michael, winged angels and fire flames, cauldrons and a serpent snake, scenes of the seven Deadly Sins and the Last Judgement with Christ in a nimbus cloud at the top, with church pews in front of the wall and the architectural beams above, set within a decorative frame border with the bold stylised title lettering below. Printed by Sanders Phillips and Co Ltd, The Baynard Press. Good condition, restored paper losses, restored tears, staining, backed on linen.

Are your posters originals?

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
Can I visit your gallery?

Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 11am-5pm (by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays*).
