Cachou Lajaunie Leonetto Cappiello
Original antique advertising poster for Cachou Lajaunie, a French brand of liquorice and mint sweets - Design by the renowned Italian artist Leonetto Cappiello (1875-1942) depicting an elegant smiling lady in a green dress with black bows and a feather headdress, seen holding a cigarette in one hand and a small, round, yellow tin of sweets. Developed by pharmacist Leon Lajaunie in 1880 as a medicinal lozenge and breath freshener, sweets were marketed as "indispensable for smokers" to perfume and freshen the mouth. The caption in French reads - Essential for smokers. Available at tobacconists and pharmacies / Indispensable aux fumeurs. Dans les bureaux de tabac et pharmacie. Printed by P. Vercasson & Cie, Paris. Good condition, repaired tears, creasing, staining, restored paper losses, small paper losses, backed on old linen.

Are your posters originals?

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
