Original antique advertising poster for a French brand of liquorice, catechu powder and mint lozenge sweets - Cachou Lajaunie - featuring a great design by the renowned Italian artist Leonetto Cappiello (1875-1942) depicting a smiling lady in an elegant green dress with black bows and ribbons on it, and a black feather headdress on her red hair, looking at a small round tin she's holding with a cigarette in her other hand, the smoke rising on the brown background with the bold black lettering curved on the side and rest of the text on the border above and below - Essential for smokers Available at tobacconists and pharmacies / Indispensable aux fumeurs Dans les bureaux de tabac et pharmacie. Cachou Lajaunie was developed in 1880 by the pharmacist Leon Lajaunie (1841-1914) as a medicinal lozenge and breath freshener for smokers and others to combat poor oral hygiene. Printed by P. Vercasson & Cie, Paris. Large size. Good condition, repaired tears, creasing, staining, restored paper losses, small paper losses, backed on old linen.

Are your posters originals?

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
