Back Our Girls YWCA WWI Telephone Operator

Original vintage World War One propaganda poster issued by the Young Women's Christian Association Y.W.C.A. to recruit women to enlist with the war effort - Back our girls over there - United War Work Campaign. Great artwork by Clarence F. Underwood (1871-1929) depicting a lady in uniform working as a telephone operator at an operations desk below the YWCA triangle logo on the wall with an army of front line soldiers on foot and horse back depicted in the background. The Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) was founded in the UK in 1855 and in the USA in 1858 (Ladies Christian Association). The so-called "Hello Girls" telephone operators served the fighting forces in Europe during WW1 and were fluent in French and English. The United War Work Campaign was set up to combine voluntary organisations to raise funds and contribute to the war effort. Good condition, creases and folds, small repaired tears on margins.
