Meikira Taisho Demon Buddist Temple Nara Japan
Original vintage travel poster featuring a dramatic photograph of Meikira - a painted clay demon from the Late Nara Period (710-794 AD) in the Shinjakushiji Buddhist temple - set against a dark background with the Japanese text vertically on the left and below in golden lettering. Meikira (Indara) is one of Twelve Heavenly Generals (729-749) protecting the principal Yakushi Nyorai buddha of the Shin-Yakushi-ji temple, which was founded in 747 by the Kegon sect in Nara Japan by Empress Komyo (701-760) of the Fujiwara clan. Excellent condition, restored small pinholes, backed on linen.
