Long Live Pushkin USSR Gustav Klutsis Photomontage
Original vintage Soviet propaganda poster glorifying the famous Russian poet Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin (1799-1837) featuring a great photomontage by the notable Constructivist avant garde artist Gustav Klutsis (1895-1938) of a crowd of people cheering and waving with red banners, flowers and books around a statue of Pushkin sitting thoughtfully on a park bench in Tsarskoye Selo, a quote by Pushkin above and the rest of the text below. Tsarskoye Selo (Tsar's Village) is the former residence of the Imperial family located near St Petersburg in the town of Pushkin, renamed to celebrate the centenary of his death; the poet graduated here in 1817 from the Imperial Lyceum next to Catherine Palace (home of the Amber Room). Very good condition, restored folds, tears and minor loss on margins, backed on linen.
