ARP Calling You Keely

Original vintage propaganda poster designed by the notable British graphic artist Patrick Cokayne Keely (d 1970) - ARP Calling You get in touch with your local council - featuring a fantastic Art Deco style image of a factory whistle blowing steam against a night sky with the stylised text above and below. The UK Government set up the Air Raid Precautions (ARP) department in 1937 before World War Two to effectively deal with aerial bombing and to report any incidents, run by volunteer wardens organised by local councils, with increased responsibilities such as enforcing the blackout and helping people locate shelters during the Blitz from 1939; the ARP became the Civil Defence Service in 1941. Printed by Fosh & Cross, London in 1938. Good condition, restored tears and minor loss on margins, backed on linen.
