The Enterprising Lunardi's Grand Air Balloon

Rare etching showing Vincent Lunardi's hot air balloon on the first flight over England on 15th September 1784. This must have been the first hot air balloon flight in the UK. Joseph and Etienne Montgolfier were the first on a manned air balloon flight on 21st November, 1783. Text reads: The Enterprising Lunardi's Grand Air Balloon, which took its flight from the Artillery ground, Sept. 15 1784; Amidst the acclamations of 300,000 spectators. This wonderful machine raised to the amazing height of near three mules; continued floating in the air for three hours and then alighted about 5 miles beyond Ware, in Hertfordshire, 24 miles from London. Published as the act directs, by S.W. Fores No3 Picadilly, Sept. 23, 1784
