Jeanne Gray (Lady Jane Grey)


Engraving of Lady Jane Grey, also known as the Nine Days' Queen, from a drawing by the Dutch artist Adriaene van der Werff, engraved by the French engraver/publisher Busan in c.1750-60s with the inscription Proclamee Reine d'Angleterre le 10 Juillet 1553 Decapitee a Londres le 12 Fevrier 1554.
Lady Jane Grey was the de facto Queen of England who only reigned for nine days from 10-19 July 1553. She was convicted of high treason in November 1553 and executed in February 1554. As royalty, she was privately beheaded in the Tower of London on the orders of cousin, Queen Mary I.
